Popular Mounts and How to Get Them

A player goes rushing by and in that brief second you find you have become sure of one thing;, you must have that mount. Whether you’re an avid collector or just an average Joe struck by fancy to , you are willing to go to great lengths to obtain the mount of your dreams. If only you knew where it came from! This guide will attempt to help you collect the mount you so desire but be advised that some mounts will take more dedication than others, and to obtain some will prove nothing short of frustrating.

Quest Reward Mounts

Venomhide Ravasaur
Requirements: Level 40, Riding Skill 75
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Mor’vek in Un’Goro Crater. To gain this mount travel to Un’Goro Crater and seek out Mor’vek at the edge of the Crater, south east of Fire Plume Ridge. Mor’vek will offer you several easy quests to complete. Once you have proven yourself to Mor’vek by completing his quests he will offer you a Venomhide Ravasaur hatchling for you to raise. For the hatchling to fully mature, you will need to collect 20 of it’s baby teeth. The baby teeth are obtained by doing the daily quest offered to you by the hatchling (rather easy collection quests). Once you have collected all 20 teeth, bring them, 20 Runecloth, 80 Gold and 20 Rugged Leather back to Mor’vek for the saddle to your new mount. Keep in mind the teeth are given as a reward for a daily quest, so it will take you 20 days (at least) to get your mount.

White Polar Bear
Requirements: Level 40, Riding Skill 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Hyldnir Spoils in the Storm Peaks. While doing the quest chains in Storm Peaks you will find yourself turned at one point into one of the Hyldnir. Completing these quests will open up a few daily quests that when completed will give you the bag of Hyldnir Spoils.

Black War Bear
Requirements: Level 40, Riding Skill 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: This mount is the reward for completing the achievement “For the Alliance!”, or “For the Horde!” both of which require you to kill the leaders of the opposing factions.

Albino Drake
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: To obtain this mount you must complete the achievement “Leading the Cavalry” which requires you to collect 50 mounts. This may prove to be a tedious and expensive endeavor.

Red Proto-Drake
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Probably not for the casual player, this mount is a reward for completing the achievement “Glory of the Hero”, which involves competing 38 different heroic difficulty dungeon achievements. See your in game achievement menu for the exact achievements required.

Violet Proto-Drake
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill Level 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 310%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Granted after completing the achievement “What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been”, which involves completing most of the achievements contained in: To Honor Ones Elders, Fool For Love, Noble Gardener, For the Children, The Flame Keeper(H)/The Flame Warden (A), Brewmaster, Hallowed Be Thy Name, and Merrymaker. Check your in game achievement menu for more information.

Rusted Proto-Drake
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground = 100%, Air - 310%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Easier to obtain than it’s Ironbound sibling, this mount is the reward for completing the “Glory of the Ulduar Raider” achievement. To complete this achievement you will need to complete various achievements inside of Ulduar. See your in game achievement menu for more information. Once again, if you cannot clear Ulduar, check with some of the guilds on your server and you may be able to buy yourself a spot into a raid to get this mount.

Crusader’s Black Warhorse (H)/Crusader’s White Warhorse (A)
Requirements: N/A
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Black - Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves/White - Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei
Source: Granted to those brave and skilled adventures who complete the achievement “A Tribute to Immortality”. This achievement requires players to reach the Tribute Chest in Trial of the Grand Crusader with 50 attempts remaining and without allowing any raid member to die during any of the boss encounters.

Source: Looted from the Cracked Egg which starts out as a Mysterious Egg and can be obtained from the Oracles in Sholazar Basin. You must be Revered reputation or higher to purchase the egg. The Oracles offer several daily quests in the surrounding village to help you gain the needed reputation. Once you are able to buy the egg you will be forced to wait seven days for it to hatch. Once hatched you will find either, an Aged Yolk, one of the various mini-pets, or if you are exceptionally lucky this mount. You may only have one Mysterious Egg in your inventory at one time. The Green Proto-Drake has roughly a 2% drop rate.

Nether Drakes
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Nether Drakes can be purchased from Drake Dealer Hurlunk in Netherwing Ledge, Shadowmoon Valley. To purchase these Drakes you will need to gain Exalted reputation with the Netherwing faction. To gain Exalted you will need to complete the daily quests that can be found on Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley. Once Exalted is reached you can complete a quest (given by Onyxien in Lower City, Shattrath) that will allow you to gain one of these mounts for free. Any additional Drakes can be purchased from Drake Dealer Hurlunk for 160G. The Drakes come in many colors including: Onyx, Azure, Viridian, Purple, Violet, and Cobalt.

Nether Rays
Requirements: Level 70, Riding Skill 300
Movement: Ground - 100%, Air - 280%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Nether Rays can be purchased from Grella in Blackwind Landing, Terokkar Forest only after you have reached Exalted with the Sha’tari Skyguard. To gain Exalted simply complete the dailies available to you on Blackwind Landing, and if you really are determined you can also kill most of the mobs there for reputation. Once you’ve reached Exalted these mounts can be purchased for 160G and come in a variety of colors including: Purple, Green, Blue, Red, and Silver.

Great Brewfest Kodo/Brewfest Ram
Requirements: Level 40, Riding 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Only available during Brewfest, these mounts have a chance to drop off Coren Direbrew in Blackrock Depths. While the mounts are rather rare, both mounts can occasionally drop at the same time, from the same kill.

Magic Broom
Requirements: Level 10, Riding 75
Movement: Scales with Riding Skill
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: These Brooms are rather common drop from the Headless Horseman, a summon able boss that can be found in Scarlet Monastery during the Hallows End holiday. These brooms automatically become a flying mount when used in Outland or Northrend. These mounts sadly only have a 14 day duration and will then vanish from your bags.

Headless Horseman’s Steed
Requirements: Level 40, Riding 75
Movement: Scales with Riding Skill
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: Dropped by the Headless Horseman in Scarlet Monastery during the Hallow’s End holiday event these mounts scale themselves to the riding skill of the rider. These mounts will fly when the rider is in Outland or Northrend. A very rare mount indeed with less than a 2% drop rate.

Other

Mekgineer's Chopper (A)/Mechano-Hog (H)
Requirements: Level 80, Riding 150
Movement: Ground Only - 100%
Ridden by: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves
Source: This nifty little motor bike can be crafted for you by an Engineer. However you will find that it will cost you quite a bit of gold in the process. The materials are none too cheap, and will take some time to collect. I don’t think we will be seeing these selling consistently on the AH anytime soon.
